Frances Mason McTeer
Frances Mason McTeer died peacefully in her home on January 29, 2017. Frances was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 23, 1926 and resided in Savannah since early childhood, eventually making Tybee Island her permanent home. She went to public grammar school, attended Fassifern School for Girls, and graduated from Savannah High School in in 1944. In 1948 she married Frank Hamilton McTeer, Sr., “Shank”, who served in the US Army in WWII and in Korea. She was an active member of National Association of Women in Construction and worked as a bookkeeper for Walter Strong, Saylor Marine, TIC, and Myrick Marine Construction from which she retired. She was a member of the Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee. She is survived by her son, Frank McTeer, Jr.; daughter, Suzanne Mock; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Buck, and grandchildren, Ashlie Newman, Olivia McTeer, and Angus McTeer. Frances was preceded in death by her mother, Cammie Mason in 1984 and husband, Shank in 2005. She and Shank maintained many close friendships throughout their marriage. She is dearly loved by her children and grandchildren and will be missed for a lifetime. The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Jamie Evans, for her excellent support and care.
A private graveside memorial service was held at Bonaventure Cemetery on February 1, 2017.
